Gloria Barczak provides some insightful thoughts on the release of the Sony Playstation

In a February 2007 Electronic Gaming Monthly story entitled, “BattleStation!” by Dan Hsu and Shane Bettenhausen, the success of the Sony Playstation 3 is discussed in depth. According to Professor of Marketing, Gloria Barczak, this success is dependant on Sony being able to meet the “excitement” needs of the customers. “The better the graphics and the faster the game speed, the greater the customer satisfaction. However, what really helps with creating a competitive advantage is trying to ascertain the ‘excitement’ needs of customers… those which the customer can’t communicate to you, but if you can uncover and deliver on them, satisfaction is geometrically increased.”

But it is especially hard to find a cost advantage in a business which buys so many inputs from other suppliers.”

growing trend in cell phone advertising. This is what Fareena Sultan,
Associate Professor of Marketing, calls “brand-in-the-hand.” Professor
Sultan states, “We're calling the phone 'the brand in your hand' -- you're never more than a foot away from it, 24 hours a day. The challenge will be to produce an advertisement for the phone "that excites the person holding it."

Questions to Symantec's Acquisition on the Rise

In a February 8th Top Tech News story, the reporter states the success after Symantec's acquisition of Veritas has been sketchy and raised some questions from investors. With all the recent acquisitions, Symantec is getting squeezed between IBM and Microsoft. Boston Corporate Finance's president, Murray Beach states, "On one hand, they're getting squeezed by Microsoft, and on the other hand, they're getting squeezed by the likes of IBM and EMC. That's not a great place to be."
