New executives hired at Dell in hope to reduce costs.

In a February 11th posting in Red Herring’s letters and comments section, some comments from Harlan Platt are included on Dell’s new executive changes. “Dell’s new hires are hopeful signs because they suggest that Michael Dell, who recently reassumed control over the firm, is trying to get a handle on costs,” states Professor Platt. “The low cost producer often earns a profit in a highly competitive marketplace. But it is especially hard to find a cost advantage in a business which buys so many inputs from other suppliers.”
