Emotional Intelligence

In a March 6th posting in her blog site, Penelope Trunk discusses the increasing importance of emotional intelligence when getting a new job.
She introduces Northeastern University College of Business Administration teaching project management in three areas: planning, team management, and negotiation. Brendan Bannister stresses the importance of personal assessment. “Personal assessment is all the rage at business schools right now,” says Professor Bannister. Ken Barnet, a vice president at State Street Global Research, presents the significance of soft skills in the hiring process. "MBA students we employ as business analysts don't need to come into our company being a finance guru, able to espouse the latest financial theories," Mr. Barnet said. "What's much more important is that they know how to analyze issues and communicate recommendations." Mr. Barnet is one of over two dozen corporate executives who helped CBA retool the MBA this year.
